About Thomas C. Card

Thomas C. Card is an American artist, director and photographer based in New York. Card has always seen the world through the lens of art, always questioning how to elevate the most simple and mundane aspects of life into their most aspirational state. And likewise how to make the most fanciful and whimsical elements communicate their most profound meaning. Most of Card’s art is underlined with mathematical formulas and symbolism.

Card first book and multi-media show, Tokyo Adorned, explored the expression of individuality and self through intimate studio portraits of Tokyo’s fashion tribe members. Work from this sold-out book has been seen in multiple shows across the country. Tokyo adorned received high praise from the media and Card was interviewed multiple times regarding his process and the experience surrounding the book and the show. Books and prints from this series are available at tcardstudio.com.

Card has been featured in multiple publications including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and the New York Times Magazine. His sense of beauty, wit, and whimsy permeates his style of story telling and can been seen in his collaboration on countless advertising campaigns. His commercial clients have included Gucci, Versace, Kevyn Aucoin, Ralph Lauren, Ferragamo, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Amazon, Barneys NY, Apple, Pop Sugar. Laura Mercier, Pepsi, Juicy Couture, Dr. Brandt, Ahava, Gap, Warby Parker, Victoria’s Secret, and L’oreal among others.

Card’s large-scale landscape photography forms the central focus of his most theoretical work. With this work, Thomas uses the single image as a mark playing with repetition, sequencing, context, and tonal values to create a complex layers of coded meaning.
